I teach a class on the philosophy of time twice a week at a maximum security prison in Jessup, Maryland, for the JCI Scholars Program (which you can find out more about here—as well as the wonderful recent news about Pell Grants here!) When I told some of the students last summer that I was thinking of teaching a class on time, one approvingly responded, “If there’s anybody who knows about time, it’s us.” And so far that is indeed my experience: the students come to each class with an eagerness to relate the course material to their long and intensely reflective experience.
